If your RV has been sitting in storage, it’s important to de-winterize it before hitting the road. Below, we cover key steps of the RV de-winterization process.
Wash Your RV
Even in storage, your RV can accumulate gunk and grime. The longer you wait to clean it, the more likely it is that your camper’s exterior will eventually be damaged. However, you don’t want to get any water inside your RV when you rinse it off. Before you start cleaning, examine the roof seams and check the sidewalls and corners for any holes that may have formed while in storage.
Inspect the Battery
Cold temperatures can do a lot of damage to your RV’s battery. Check that your battery is free of cracks, disconnect it, and then clean the connections. After that, check the fluid levels, charge it, and put it back in your camper.
Address the Water System
You need to flush the antifreeze out of your water system. Start by fully draining and then rinsing your freshwater tank. Then fill the tank back up with clean water and run your water pump.
Check the Tires
Examine the tires closely to check for cracks in the sidewalls or uneven wear in the tread. If the tires are getting bald, it’s time to replace them. Remove any embedded objects from the tread. Before airing up the tires, check the current psi level. Be sure to inflate the tires to match the manufacturer’s recommendations.
